patron of the arts
There’s romance associated with being the ‘starving artist,’ but the truth of the matter is- it isn’t much fun. I’ve considered chucking it all and getting an honest job, but that really isn’t an option. People don’t choose to become artists. They’re born that way. So I wondered, why not do it the old fashioned way, through patronage? The trouble is there aren’t many princes left to approach, and the modern day equivalents in business don’t seem to appreciate art the way their predecessors did. Then I got to thinking, why not mass patronage? This web site reaches thousands of people a year. The modern internet itself was designed for ‘micro cash’ economic transactions. (Then big business decided it should be used for traditional macro cash transactions and deleted those features.) But who said we can’t use it for small cash transactions anyway? If everyone who appreciates what I’m doing threw in a dollar it wouldn’t put me on easy street, but it would sure make it easier to continue.
So, at the risk of sounding like a beggar, I’ll put it to you, will you be a patron of the arts and make a small donation? Perhaps you don’t want to buy a print right now, but look at the photographs I’ve created and ask yourself, is what I’m doing worth supporting? If it is, click the PayPal link and send me a dollar or two. What else would you do with it? Buy half of a café latte? A hundredth of a night on the town? (And though I really want this to be an experiment in the vox populi, that given the choice the people would rather fund a Jackson Pollack than a Jerry Springer, if you’re a prince (or princess) who can afford to make a large donation, click the button and add as many zeros as you like.)
What will you get for your money? Not only my eternal gratitude, a warm feeling inside, and bragging rights that you’re an arts patron, but also the knowledge that you’re helping to finance the creation of art- which more than language, tools, or opposable thumbs separates us from the animals. Thanks.
Just click the PayPal donation link below and make a payment via bank transfer, e-check, or any major credit card. (If you've never used PayPal, it takes about up minutes sign up, and is even covered by FDIC pass through insurance.)
